It manifests itself differently in different optics, but a red dot has electronics in the bottom to bounce the dot against the glass. I'm guessing all the circuitry that hooks the power source (the battery) to the operating guts breaks. I mean I don't know many electronic devices that are going to be happy getting as insanely hot as a barrel can get.
just don't mag dump, the AK manliness is too much for girly red dots. cooked one or two that way. =)
Gas tube mount huh? They are sturdy but notorious for frying optics. Side mount or a sturdy dust cover like Zenitco is the way to go
Attero leaf sight mount works too (pictured in OP)
Yeah that mount looks very slick. Would work nicely on a side or under folder. Can you take off the dust cover with that mount?
Yes. The mount hovers like 1-2mm above the dust cover, so you can slide it off and on not too difficultly.
what happen?
it's common to mount optics on the gas tube. The gas tube gets ridiculously hot. Optics often don't like getting ridiculously hot.
Does this melt them, Warp them, or ruin the seals, resulting in fogging? Or something else?

It's over the dust cover not the gas tube.
