It manifests itself differently in different optics, but a red dot has electronics in the bottom to bounce the dot against the glass. I'm guessing all the circuitry that hooks the power source (the battery) to the operating guts breaks. I mean I don't know many electronic devices that are going to be happy getting as insanely hot as a barrel can get.
Does this melt them, Warp them, or ruin the seals, resulting in fogging? Or something else?
