People who have investigated this have found that it's caused by censorship of any *.win domain. This TLD is invested with dodgy gambling and lottery sites, and they spam text messages through gateways.
One person tried several combinations, and found that T-Mobile was blocking *.win URLs, but only if it came from outside T-Mobile's system.
