Why am I not surprised?
How is Netherlands faring? I have a huge soft spot for you guys as I spent a lot of time visiting since I was dating a lady from there. I haven't been back since early March before the whole shutdown stuff.
Do you guys have a lot of restrictions?
oh yes. You are only allowed to walk the street in groups of 4... (unless you are family, ofcourse). That is an improvement from max 2 people in the past 2 weeks.
Restaurants, bars, etc closed for over a month already. (full close.) Cinema's, theme parks, museums were closed the past 2 weeks but re-opened with a maximum of 30 people inside a room (doesnt matter how big the room...)
they have cancelled sinterklaas (dutch form of pre-christmas) and are looking to cancel christmas and newyears. Normally everyone was allowed fireworks, this year, all fireworks banned, maximum 3 guests in your house, etc etc etc. Mask mandate in all public places (inside only)

I remember the fireworks, I was there on New Years and it sounded like a battlefield with explosions going off everywhere, haha.
I was walking through a tunnel under the highway and this ominous dude on a bicycle put down a package on the floor, and the most deafening boom I've heard followed, with the entire tunnel filling with smoke immediately.
I hope you guys come out of that soon! Here some states have been shut down since March, lol. Fucking insanity.

Yeah New Years in the Netherlands is a wonderfull battlefield haha, some places are quiet but most cities and villages are indeed total war. Normally kids buy small firecrackers and adults bigger ornamental fireworks... this year, since our governement banned the sale of any type of fireworks; more and more people are moving to poland, belgium and germany to buy (in our country illigal) firecrackers as big as handgrenades... The youth is not happy with the ban on fireworks and damage of public property due to fireworks is through the roof already (and its november!) This is not going to be a nice New Years here, expect a lot of riots, blown up cars, etc etc etc because people are losing their minds and the government is stupid and restrictive.

Thanks! yeah people are angry, lots of public property being destroyed.... we have weekly demonstrations from a variety of groups (police, farmers, anti-racism, healthcare, teachers, anti lockdown people, nobody is actually happy... XD)
Your country went through so much during WW1 and WW2, I think a people who survived those horrors will not let any government take their lives and freedom from them. If no one is happy, if people are angry, perhaps it is time to begin recall petitions for all of the leadership that are imposing these horrific rules. Yeah... well politics here are a lot softer and more left wing than in america. You will find that older generations here vote for the christian democrats party, which on the US spectrum would be more left than the democrats on average. They stick up for farmers sometimes, but socially and economically the only goal they seem to have is take away people's freedoms and let us pay for all the migrants that are floating in. Not nice.
Our political system is also horrible to actually get some change going and we will keep going the way we are now for atleast the next 10 years and turn into a communist muslim state if we keep going. Its insane. The media here is all government funded, we dont have any big private funded news platforms like newsmax, OANN or FOX. We just have 5 slightly different, politically center left platforms that push people to keep voting for retarded policy. Economically we are doing fine, but its not set to last.... I dont want kids in this country, and I dont want to die here.
