Talk about a losing proposition. If we win we get Romney, if we lose we get Obama. A lame duck Obama with a republican congress was probably better than Romney. Cheating or not there was no winning that election.

Bob Dole was put up against Clinton to lose. He was a long time Republican a war hero and the party thought it would be nice to give him the nomination. He had no chance of winning. He wasn't demented like Biden, but too old to be president.

It used to be that was more or less the pattern, they'd just alternate presidency every 8 years and purposely nominate someone terrible to run against the incumbent, except for guys like Carter who really sucked (or Reagan was just supposed to lose and like Trump, surprise!). During Obama the Dems decided they didn't want to play that game anymore.

I'm not sure Clinton was supposed to win in 1992. All of the Dems were very week that year. The only reason Clinton won was because Ross Perrott came out of no where and took votes away from Bush.
