The best explanation I've seen for the release was for legal reasons. Sidney is still Gen Flynn's lawyer. She's already had to deny to corrupt Judge Sullivan that she hasn't spoken to Trump about the Flynn case, so I think there is just some ass covering going on here so Sullivan doesn't bring up conflict of interest in the Flynn case.
