However, my entire life long collection of firearms was lost on a river this summer when a gigantic earthquake flipped everything over, swallowed everything up and spat it in the form of magma from a formally dormant volcano next to the river :(
I've heard the front handguard on M&P sports are kinda thin and easy to heat up but otherwise are fine. You could certainly buy something way worse for even twice that.
I did that. Bought something worse for twice that. A stainless mini-14. I don't regret it, it's a fine gun, I love the M-14 ish action. Cleaner, tougher. But the MP is a bit more accurate, and fun to shoot. A pain in the ass to clean compared to the mini, though.
I put a long rail foregrip on mine that gives more space to mount things. Got the rail system from combathunting.com. Put a light on it first thing. Then after all that work it fell right in the dang lake. Canoeing was rough that day and in hindsight, taking all my guns on that trip was a bad idea.
