How do meds/therapists factor into this? Parents had me on all kinds of awful shit growing up and made the mistake of letting my self get talked into shrink visits for a period of time some years ago. More than anything else I'm worried I've ended up on some sort of spook no-funs-allowed list and I might set something off.

12
Jackdagger 12 points ago +12 / -0

I think you still would be fine to buy. HIPPA Law is pretty powerful and none of that would come to light unless there was some kind of violent offense or extenuating circumstance from what I understand

3
Aproachablelion 3 points ago +3 / -0

Go and buy a gun, it’s kind of risk free. If you’re on some list and get denied, you still get a refund for the gun. Then if you get approved, you don’t have a concern for the next one you buy!

2
TrumpTrainNov3 2 points ago +2 / -0

Just google in your state "(state) mental health laws for owning a firearm." Usually you're only prohibited if you have had something extreme on your record, like being "declared mentally insane by a court of law or institution" etc. If you were just taking some antidepressants or anti-anxiety medication, it shouldn't be a problem. Besides shooting guns reduces anxiety and makes you less depressed 😜

2
AlphaOmaga 2 points ago +2 / -0

Depends when (your age at the time and how long ago). Also depends if it was state/court ordered. The wording on the checks is very specific. Also important you make sure feel you are 100% fine yourself.

I love you QITP (no homo), but that's only true until someone tells on you. Unless I'm mistaken, you can be concern-reported anonymously to police by anyone (remember "if you see something, say something?"). They'll pick you up because God forbid you go on a shooting spree and they get sued (gasp!). All it takes then is for some lefty psychiatrist to opine that you may pose a danger, and then you, a law-abiding citizen can lose your gun rights, after a stay at the psych ward of course.

I still believe red flag laws are much too subjective and can and will be abused against law abiding citizens. If I'm being paranoid, please do show me how, but this is what I believe is coming down the pipe with red flag laws.

DivvyDivet 16 points ago +17 / -1

Marine here. You can't get tendies in boot camp. However Pendleton has a McDonald's and a Jack in the Box on base. Lejune has a Burger King. You can get tendies at the Bowling alley at MCAS Yuma too. Once deployed the chow hall may have chicken nuggets but not tendies. You'll have to ruff it a little. If you get the hotdogs MRE... Don't eat the hotdogs.

2

heightnoise 5 points ago +5 / -0

Apparently everything.

Also Divvy, not a Marine myself but Semper Fi and thank you for your service. And is it true there's an MRE with a brownie (or something) that is basically worth its weight in gold in a trade? Heard of that before, was curious.

3
PeachFlavoredMints 3 points ago +5 / -2

You'll have to bring it up to your drill sergeant. I was Air Force, "tendies" were considered low class.

14
Pappy_Gunn 14 points ago +15 / -1

Yeah I had it rough in the Air Force a few times. Like one time, deployed, they had us stay in 3 star hotel and we had to double up in rooms! And the guy I was shacked up with wasn't even gay, and the mini bar fridge broke.

4

I showed my son videos of Receiving Week, and he asks why the DIs mistreat the boys so badly? He’s seven, mind you and he looked appalled. I says ”Son Marines need to go through this type of training because they cannot read or write this is the only way they can live now.” lol he and I laughed it off but I later explained that these DI’s need to break these young men and women down in order to build them up into the most deadly US Marine that they can be they demand the best. My son had a glean in his eye and said I “I love our military.” God bless you guys.

4
Thingthing22 4 points ago +6 / -2

Yum yum

1
YeDragonEnergy 1 point ago +2 / -1

Marine Corps is the best gun club, but it always depends on your MOS/contract you choose. A cook in the USMC usually won’t touch a weapon as part of their job while security forces in the Chair Force will be handling weapons daily

29
PMAGA 29 points ago +30 / -1

Ever consider joining the military or applying for jobs/universities out of state?

10
ArcFlareEspergeist [S] 10 points ago +12 / -2

Pretty much missed the boat on the military. I've had really shitty luck with getting laid off from previous jobs and never really found my real grove. Haven't been able to make ends meet well enough to keep up with rent and other living expenses. Out of state is the best bet but it would be a hell of a gamble if I fuck up.

18
Carter_Druse 18 points ago +23 / -5

4
ArcFlareEspergeist [S] 4 points ago +5 / -1

True. I've always been a 'look before you leap' sort of fellow but it's really bitten me in ass and that's been one of the most bitter redpills I've had to swallow.

If I ever get the chance to start a family no way in hell I make the same mistakes with the helicopter/bulldozer shit.

13
TrumpTrainChoooChoo2 13 points ago +14 / -1

Find a trade school. Electricians and plumbers make great money and anyone can do it if they’re willing to put in the work. YOU GOT THIS!

3
ArcFlareEspergeist [S] 3 points ago +4 / -1

Electrician has been sounding good, though I've actually been thinking about metalworking. Would be a great way to shoot two birds with one bullet. Only issue is whether or not the demand is there to justify it.

9
TrumpTrainChoooChoo2 9 points ago +10 / -1

Well stop thinking and start doing. Figure out a path and start making moves, I’ve found consistently that those that make moves do 100 times better than those that overthink everything and are scared to try new things bc it may not work out. I say this out of love, think and evaluate for a brief time then make a decision and move forward with actions. We never know 100% what the right decision is but you have to have faith, pray for the best, AND TAKE ACTIVE STEPS. Best of luck to you my friend.

Yes. You could do that while still living with your parents. After six months you would know how it was going, and you would have some money saved.

As your parents firmly do not agree with you, it isn't useful to tangle with them verbally.

Glad to hear you’re happy where you are, make your own path and let no one choose it for you. Cooking can be just buying a slow cooker, putting stuff in it, and coming back later to a stew. They come with recipes. But for now I see your point.

Dont worry about cost.. go for revenue or high pay.. you can optimize on cost later.. coooing is easy to pick up.

You know, it's funny, way back when, everyone used to be worried about subliminal messages of that form. But I don't think that that technique works. Instead, they mastered the technique of brainwashing people over TV with shows like the Daily Show and that Colbert Report. Not subliminal, but brainwashing just the same, and far more effective.

OMAD? I'm assuming KETO=ketosis.

Biggest problem with keto is that if you don't stay keto you fuck up your body even worse than where you started, and in a SHTF scenario meat and other protein is going to be a lot more scarce, so I can't imagine it's overall the best choice. Unless there's something I'm missing.

2
deleted 2 points ago +3 / -1
2
Gyrfalcon 2 points ago +2 / -0

OMAD = One Meal A Day Get off the sugar and junk food and many of your cravings will disappear.

Biggest problem with keto is that if you don't stay keto you fuck up your body even worse than where you started,

Like many things, don't listen to the media shills. Research for yourself. I suggest Gary Taubes. He is a researcher and his books are readable. Why we get fat is one of his older books, the first of his I read. He has several newer books but not having read them I won't give a recommendation.

2
AngryCanary 2 points ago +2 / -0

OMAD stands for "one meal a day". If you're too stupid to count calories (as most people are), then eating one meal a day can make it difficult to eat in a surplus. It's a fool-proof way for fools to lose weight, because eating once is easier to understand than "eat less". Also, if you force yourself to go hungry most hours of the day, you will eventually become better at ignoring hunger.

If you're not overweight, obese, and are fine with counting calories, there isn't really any point to it. Keto diets are also mostly bunk. Just get enough protein and calories throughout your day to meet your goals and move more.

Well, I should've specified the dicey part is keeping it in your car. There's lots of technicalities there (at least in my state) where the gun has to be out of reach, ammo and gun in separate containers, or kept in the trunk, etc

Hell in some places like NY I think you can only have a gun in your car if you're driving to/from a range.

3
ArcFlareEspergeist [S] 3 points ago +4 / -1

Any good budgeting guides? Nailing down the rent and expenses is the tricky part for me. I'd imagine rural areas are cheaper homewise but does the trade-off in other living expenses make a big difference. Internet service would be a bitch for sure.

0
AlcoholicRetard 0 points ago +1 / -1

When my parents kicked me out I lived in my car for a few months and got eaten alive by mosquitoes, then got a room in this bedbug infested shithole for about a year then moved into a mouse infested shithole one bedroom studio apartment where I could actually get laid. Once you’ve moved into a place that has mammal pests instead of insect pests you know you’re in the clear. Depending on your income and various drug addictions it may take a while or possibly a lifetime to get through the living in your car phase.

Spez: Almost forgot, when sleeping in your car, neck support is key, the airport neck pillow things are the shit.

I know you're joking, but I have honest to god given this serious thought. Maybe getting some sort of camper and wandering state to state. Not sure how I'd make money though.

I don't know how old you are, so it might not be relevant, but I can say this: my daughter went and joined the air force when she was 20...

And it was the best thing she ever did. I joined the army when I was 18, and it was a move that shaped the rest of my life. It is a great experience. My daughter is now out, got her degree, and has a great job with a spectacular future. If you join a branch of the service, you do get out on your own, but with a great support network. Medical benefits, 30 days vacation, living on base for free, and it's very convenient. Pick a branch you'd like, and pick a job you'd be interested in. It's at least worth a serious look.

I wish you luck in whatever you decide.

just work on saving up however you can and move to a cheap state/city. i have the exact same predicament, but i'm currently in that saving phase and already have where i'm moving to planned out.

remember, your idea of how much things like rent costs is completely off if you go by major blue state, blue city standards. smaller cities in red states have just as much, if not more to offer in terms of activities and amenities, and have exponentially lower costs of living.

Ain't shit all for opportunity in my state right now. As others said military might be a good option or if you're on east coast NC always has a shit ton of manufacturing opportunities. The company I worked for the pay was really good and I could work as much as I wanted at the time. 12-16 hour shifts up to 6 days a week. Did it for some years and moved back to my hometown to buy a house in full with cash. It did wear me the fuck out though.. but it was worth aside from the complete destruction of my social life.
