It can be very expensive. Our healthcare system is fucked. I dont want socialized care. Id be all for the banning of health insurance to allow the market to fix the pricing.
If you want a disaster plan (for, God forbid, car accident or cancer) a 1 to 3 hundred
A higher teir if you have to goto the doc often 7 hundred.
3rd party payers for anything massively inflate costs and disrupt the market
It wasn't great but I'm old enough to remember pre obama care and it wasn't terrible. It still wasn't a great deal for young people but the employer (if you had one) paid most of the bill and the cost was fairly low (20-30 bucks a week employee cost on average from my experience and a few jobs that paid the premium totally and only left the co pay (20 to 50 for a shitty plan co pay for a vist) to the employee)) and deductibles were reasonable. Once obama care was about to be signed into law the small (under 50 employee) business I worked for just cancelled the insurance benefit totally because of increased cost and gave us nothing in replacement for the benefit being taken away. That happened across the country almost over night fucking up the insured pool that was paying for the high cost people. This drove prices up insanely high for the young healthy people still insured but mostly healthy. It spiraled from there.
Honestly I don't know. I know that we can't afford the insurance at my wife's job even for her with the company paying part of the bill. Its cheaper for her to pay cash for the 4 visits she needs a year for prescriptions (3 month supplies) than even considering getting insurance. Our medical is just fucking stupid.
Our medical is fucked 6 ways from Sunday. There are so many aspects that are fucked that are caused by other aspects. If anyone can unwind the mess medical is in its Trump but we got a lot of other issues to fix before that as sad as that is to say. Even shit like insane prices for new drugs/treatments. Mother in law is on a treatment that is over 50k per treatment. Her insurance pays what they will pay and the company pays for the rest which is a tax write off on their profits and that is just a signal aspect of a small portion of the business. Its like that the whole way through with young people paying for the risk of cost of older or unhealthy people. The regulations and red tape that create the need for damn near useless but well paid positions. Its crazy.
Good luck with that, I certainly can't afford it.

This is how a health insurance system works
Part of your premium goes to paying the salary of the person whose entire job is to deny yout claim.
Part of your doc bill goes to paying the salary of the person that must argue with that person.
Thats a dumb system. For the insurance company to continue to exist they must keep money from docs and patients
Not to mention the costs of buildings, computers, maintenance etc.
