its so fucking sad there was once a time where we were teaching kids how to take cover from ICBM's. They were still in elementary school. Now these pansy fucks cry over bathroom signs....

Yep. My parents were in grade school during the Cuban Missile Crisis. They both vividly remember "duck and cover" drills while at school.

Exactly! My dad worked for the DOD and we were stationed in Riyadh during the Gulf War. My brother and I (12 and 10 yrs old), carried our gas masks to school each day and had duck and cover drills once a week. Patriot missiles and SCUDS were blowing up over us all the time. As frightening as it was, it shaped me to be able to handle pretty much anything.

They had us all go to the hallway, sit on the floor, and put our head between our knees. We laughed that we were being told to kiss our asses goodbye.

The ICBM drills were fake too. A desk is not going to protect you from a missile strike.

Convincing children they're going to die in a burning inferno is a good way to get their parents riled up enough to support whatever you say is going to prevent it though.

It was more to give them something to do. To make them feel like they could have some control over an unthinkable situation. Yeah, it was useless, but did it have any positive effect on their psyche, which was the goal? 🤷‍♂️

Just like the useless masks, except all the mask wearers are scared shitless

Well, I would think if they are far enough from such an explosion, you’d want to be shielded from possible glass or objects falling

True! I guess everybody always just thinks of ground-zero.

Assuming you're not directly hit, hiding under a desk will protect you from glass being blown out by the pressure wave.

We had school shooting drills after columbine for a year or two. Then 9/11 happened and we had terrorist attack drills. Seriously, we had to drill in case an Islamic terrorist decided to attack my midwestern school.

I think they had too much money allocated for drills. Looking back, I bet it was a well connected someone’s cousin who ran the drill company and needed revenues.

There is a distance from a blast center in which taking cover will protect you. If you are under your desk you aren’t gawking at an explosion that seems far away before the shockwave shatters the glass windows and slices your eyeballs open.

So what you're saying is that COVID/TSA/OMG-WE'RE-ALL-GOING-TO-DIE Theater isn't a new thing?

Because the people that tend to go there are afraid to be independent but cannot stay in high school.

All my school did was call all the muslim students down to the office to make sure no other students were picking on them. Except... there were no Muslim classmates, just a couple brown kids of various non-islamic origins that came back from the office laughing and super confused.
