We build most of our guns now also ,so it gives a lot of satisfaction using a highly accurate rifle you built to your own custom design with Hand loads you made your self to get the highest accuracy & performance out of it .
I recommend if you are thinking of getting into it, to keep some money set aside & watch auction sites etc for reloaders going cheap.I brought a fully set up Dillon 550B,Scales ,Multi dies,Vibe cleaner etc, that a well known competitive shooter had won & never used for under 1/2 price of what jut the machine itself was worth, all because l had the cash ready .High quality models are often given as prizes at top shooting events, competitions etc & the guys often already have their own set up or have ammo sponsors so they sell them off cheap.
I find reloading as relaxing & as engrossing as reading a good book now ,if l have a stressful week l really enjoy sitting down & adding to my ammo stock pile, you will not regret getting into it.if you need any help/advice just ask if l can help l will,we need to encourage everyone to be more involved in enjoying the great gift of the 2A & the healthy & relaxing benefits from it .
If you do a bit of shooting regularly you should look at reloading ,l reload for everything l want premium performance out of, from 338 Lapua Magnum ,458 Mag to 223, the gains in accuracy & performance alone pays for itself, let alone the cost savings .
Calibers like the 44 mag really shine when reloaded both for accuracy & performance & you will save at least 50% on ammo. I used a Model 29 - S&W with a 6 inch barrel for a decade as my hunting/Bear repellent carry gun, before swapping to my Glock 10mm which l will not part with now & is my every day carry ,but will one day get a custom Model 29 - S&W done as a Elmer Kieth clone 4½” .44 Magnum.
I just finished reloading 1000 rounds of full power 10mm 'Bear/Self Defense loads' for hunting season for well under 1/2 price of the cheapest 10mm .
400 rounds !0mm 220-grain Hard Cast doing 1230fps
600 rounds of my favorite Hog/Deer load a 180-grain Trophy Bonded Bear Claw doing 1280 fps
Next up l will be reloading hunting loads for my 338 Lapua Magnum & 338 Edge,l have just returned from a hunting trip where l made the longest shot of my Military & Hunting life in the field at 1235 yards with the 338 Edge only possible by reloading the ammunition myself to get the maximum performance & accuracy . The 338E is a incredible hunting caliber that makes the 338 Lapua Magnum look like it's little bitch with everything up to 300 grns Bullets ,these 285gr ELD-M 's , doing 2900fps & hit like sledge hammers on Elk & Deer,l wish l had had one as a SDM in Afghanistan for my last 2 tours.
