For instance, I think if you can prove their claim is false with publicly known information available at the time the claim was made, you can win a libel suit. I’m not a lawyer but that’s my recollection from a business law class I took a long time ago.

AND you have to show damages - it's an incredibly high hurdle, and very rarely happens.
