When I think of him I think of him:

• Being punched in the stomach and knocked to the floor at the 1968 Dimocrapic Convention.

• Getting roughed up on Park Ave in NYC in 1986 by a crazy guy who thought TV signals were being beamed into his brain, and kept shouting at Rather "Kenneth, what's the frequency?" (Crazy guy murdered an NBC stage-hand a few years later.) REM was inspired to write a song.

• Using fake documents to try and sabotage George Bush's 2004 campaign, in what became known as Rathergate. He was forced to retire from CBS News a few months later.
