Okay, with you on the cause of the plague (i.e. fleas). Now I think I understand you better - a good refuse management system would definitely have cut down on the opportunities for rats (and thus the fleas) and thus fewer plague deaths.
Right!!! Had they just been a little cleaner and cut down on the waste and trash there wouldn't have been near as many rats.... I've read stories of how fucking nasty they lived!! It was awful man!! Pouring their shit buckets into the streets, just brooming their trash out the door, never cleaned themselves because of no running water or adequate sewage .... It had to have been horribly nasty!!
