I have a small manufacturing business, and I've been trying to "buy American" for years, or, if not possible, to not buy Chinese goods..
Last year, I tried to buy some new garden hose nozzles. I went through a dozen Amazon pages until I found one not made in China.
Turns out, it was made in Taiwan.
We have moved so much of our manufacturing over there that it's frightening. I mean, I don't care if some of our toaster ovens or air pods are made over there, but we have slowly become heavily dependent upon Chinese labor to the point where we are actually buying lumber and coal and having it shipped here. Airplane parts, 85% of our electronics, even a lot of automotive after-market parts, furniture, agriculture, you name a sector, and China is in it, supplying cheap goods that were once made here.
My point is that every year it becomes more difficult to buy products that were not made in, or have components from China.
So instead of Chinese citizens consuming their own products, Americans get to consume them instead. And all we need to do is print out some fiat currency and give it to them? Sounds like we are the big beneficiaries.
The opposite is that Americans do the labor, we ship the products to China in exchange for their fiat currency. No thanks.
The Chinese can keep sending us goods for the next century. I'm all too happy with it.
