Exactly this. My parents, who happily voted Trump, are under this same delusion. They said flu and colds are down (they haven't experienced them this year), but covid is up and terrifying. They also have not experienced covid since they're retired and just hiding in place in their home...

They stopped counting the flu, lol. They just count covid now 🤷🏻‍♀️

Since you can test positive for covid if you just have a normal cold, I’d imagine most cold cases are counted as covid.

Lmao I’m sitting here with a slightly stuffy nose and i was first like “ahh fuck, probably got covid and have to miss work for two weeks because of this bullshit”. Then i remembered there’s other sicknesses that exist, but all we ever hear about is covid.

That's odd. I've had the beginnings of a cold and my kid and my friend started getting sick (on separate occasions) and the first thing that came to my mind was a cold, not covid.

I get allergies year-round. I have to constantly explain to people that I do NOT have covid, I just need some Flonase.

That's how this conversation started with my parents; I told them how it was noteworthy that they were going to stop counting flu cases. My parents were like "well yeah, so few cases with all social distancing, so it makes sense to stop counting flu cases".

I was livid but didn't show them my anger since they're just clueless and paranoid about covid, plus they hate liberals and vote the right way so my efforts are better served elsewhere.

You gotta call it out, give them cognitive dissonance. They may learn it still.

I had this same convo with a nurse friend. When they gave the same answer as your parents, I said ' it seems odd tho, after 24 years of the local CDC publishing their FluWatch memos with monthly flu cases- they only stopped in July of this year'.

She said, ' I didn't know there was such a thing as FluWatch Memos, but I can see why they stopped because there were no cases to report, so why bother.'

I didn't say a word, just showed her the 2020 March and June FluWatch Memos - CONFIRMED flu cases: +2200 in March and only 18 in May (the normal end-point for flu in our region).

I said, 'last year in May, there were 223 confirmed flu cases - pretty big drop, even for the end of the season. Is the hospital still testing for flu at all?'

She looked thoughtful, and then looked down and didn't answer.

Actually Flu Watch reports never stopped

No need to be livid. Just start cracking away at their reasoning, piece by piece. Don't even raise your voice because there is no need to.

I agree.

Disgust -1 points ago +1 / -2

No one is going to stop flu cases. They are still going to get counted like every other disease every year.

11
PieCars 11 points ago +14 / -3

I still can't believe this isn't a bigger deal. Like they just decided fuck it and they're not counting this year. Years from now there's gonna be a big ol gap in the data because they decided that the flu doesn't matter anymore. Why does that make any sense???

Correct me if I'm wrong (cause i very well could be) but the way i read those reports are that they're lumping pneumonia, influenza, and covid into one statistic. In years past it's been just P&I. So it makes the data a whole lot less useful when trying to compare covid deaths to the others

Trump_World_Order 7 points ago +10 / -3

That’s what I’m worried about. No doubt I will get some type of the flu in the next month or so, but they will say it’s COVID and I’ll get to be treated like a leper.

Redpillgirlfrommars 2 points ago +2 / -0

Honestly, in my opinion, if you’re coming down with some kind of sickness, you shouldn’t bother getting a test unless it’s bad. Of course take off work/avoid people like normal, but I personally think everyone should stop getting tested in protest of the lockdowns.

That might sound crazy but hear me out. They’re basing lockdowns off of the number of cases, not severely ill/deaths. The test itself is oftentimes inaccurate. there’s a significant number of asymptomatic/incredibly minor cases, and 99.98% of people recover. That being said, why the hell would we lockdown entire states? Why are we essentially being punished?! And there’s no end in sight. Fuck this. Stop testing.

1
Trump_World_Order 1 point ago +1 / -0

That’s the thing. I only go to the doctor when I feel I have real issue. If I call off sick for work they may force me to get tested out of their fear of COVID is my concern. Then I’ll get a false positive or straight up lied to about having it. Which will then further the nonsense agenda.

That's precisely how they keep this going through the spring.

Don't monitor for Influenza, but give everyone a faulty PCR test that is amplified 25% more than recommended to be a valid test so you get tons of false positives.

Gotta keep those "cases" numbers jacked up for another 6 months.

I think it's worst for the retirees. Old enough to worry about it, nothing to force them out of the house, still watch tv for the news... my mom is getting more and more paranoid.

21
Toohershat 21 points ago +25 / -4

Same. At least my mom has had a lot of yard work to keep her busy and physically active, but now with winter I'm concerned about her just being inside watching shitheads on the news.

TDW needs a slot on cable, even if it's just some Pede looking through the posts and commenting.

This would be a great podcast.

You should sneak in and block the MSM channels on their TV. Or put the child lock on them. It's basically there for exactly that reason: To keep people who shouldn't be seeing something from seeing it.

kag_patriot 13 points ago +17 / -4

I definitely agree. My mom is there too. Granted, she's in her 70's and has some health problems already, so I understand it a little more since respiratory infections take a hard toll on her anyways, but.. when she starts going on about the general public not complying to orders and how she's watching cases rise everyday and getting more and more scared.. ugh. Feels bad man. And there's no reasoning with her or talking her out of it.

I have an 80 yr. Old maiden aunt. Super Catholic. She listens to Rush and gets all fired up and says "fuck all those fucking democrats!". Then has to say another rosary. She's not buying any of it. Now hates Fox ( except Hannity). You love to see it lol!

They stay home and get more MSM programming. It's a circle of idiocy.

Show them the mortality rate this year for Sweden compared to past years! That was the final straw for my gf + her family and my parents who were somewhere in the middle with this whole plandemic, once they saw that they were like ... this is all bs. All refuse to get vaccinated over a common cold.

Spez: For context they're all on the Trump train too since I recruited them in 16 during the R primaries and after 4 years they're 110% aboard. They weren't acting like this plandemic is the plague nor that people who have had it are basically lepers now, which many of the normies around them were doing, but they were being cautious and most of them gave benefit of the doubt - so many are so afraid so it must be serious - now they know it's entirely about control.

Our region had 38,000 deaths to the end of October 2019 and only 32,000 to the end of October 2020. Lung/heart category was 6,000 in 2019 and 5000 in 2020.

How did 1000 FEWER people die in the Lung/Heart category in 2020 - if we have a lung-eating pandemic?

PRO TIP: go to the Coroners website NOT the Health Department, for the real numbers in your area.

1
Disgust 1 point ago +2 / -1

Because people get out more and have less risks of heart attack.

Can you try this original post on them and report back? NPC Meme, Real Life Edition!

I've already hit a couple people with this. Their response will likely be the same most everyone else here will get: ThE rOnA iS mUcH mOaR cOnTaGiOuS tHoUgH!!

These pansies insist on staying terrified until mayors, governors, media, and Fauci tell them it's OK to have their rights and lives back.
