We needed them to certify before legal cases to challenge could be brought. The electors are not assigned until the legislature approves the certification. As long as the GOP controlled Michigan legislature doesn’t do that, electors are not seated.
Even if the do, there’s possible redress in the joint session of Congress when electors are read and can be objected to in January.
