A super liberal FB friend posted something to the effect: “Unfriended another COVID death denier and deleted their posts. Try me.”
I responded saying:
You and I disagree politically, and probably on a lot of other issues, but I would never unfriend you or anyone because of a disagreement. I can’t stress enough that you need a dissenting view. You have to have your views challenged, as a sanity check, by the world. We are dangerously close to getting trapped in a social media/internet bubble where we only hear what we want to hear. Your post is the internet equivalent of book burning.
This was a few hours ago...just logged on to FB...UNFRIENDED, hahahaha.
That shit is not real. Social media is destroying society. No real discourse or conversations. Artificial relationships. People investing in nothing but themselves, in the end. Utter selfishness, vacuousness and narcissism.
Yeah, it’s horrible. It gives you a false sense of relationship with people. It’s so empty.
The worst thing about it is that it lets people create their own world/echo chamber and they are reaffirmed without challenge from anyone. It creates a significant psychological disparity between the real world and their social media one.
