What's the deal with Mattis?

I don't understand. When Trump picked him everyone loved it. What went wrong and would one be right in blasting him? I wouldn't want to step on the toes of Vets who like the man. Help a pede understand

I am retired Army. Mattis is a marine but I still respected him. A lot of veterans do but that’s changing. Mattis is part of the military industrial complex. As of now the dude can go get fucked
