Agreed, I think we can assume people will be able to access the internet for the foreseeable future, so building infrastructure and functionality now makes sense.

Agreed about DNS and platforms and such. AWS, DNS, could ban you etc for sure.

But you can put a computer in your garage and people can access your IP if you open up ports etc. So you can host it yourself and be fairly independent. The old fashioned way.
