Here's the issue with supreme court cases. The government has unlimited funds for legal processes. The government has top tier lawyers to argue in front of the supreme court. The average case brought to the supreme court cannot afford to pay for anywhere near the caliber of attorney needed to argue in front of the supreme court. And sadly, outcome is usually dependent on the argument made, not the merrits of the entire case.
