LOL, There are worst things to be ! Trees are awesome and important. What kind of tree do you ID as? :P
Really though, It's a matter of stress from being pulled out of the ground/loosing some of the roots (which I'm guessing they would have- or should have- looked at properly before digging it up), not having a lot of water in the meantime, the stress from being on the road for 2 days, being tied up (hence the loose of needles) and so on.
Obviously it's possible the tree just decided to say fuck you on it's way there and died? But it looked gorgeous (and it was already near the end of it's lifespan when they removed it from it's home) when submitted.
I'm all for attacking those who attack us, but I'm also a firm believer in not putting malice in where there was none! The Rockefeller Center tree is an important tradition. I hope it looks kick ass when decorated and such.
