Also, get outside and off the internet. Go for a hike. Spend time with your family. Teach your children to whittle or hunt. Build something. Read a book. Then come back and check in.
There's too many people desperately F5ing just hoping that all the court cases are gonna skip ahead several weeks. Source: Have been refreshing a lot recently.
Echo chambers exist on both the left and the right. Rational, dispassioned discussion is impossible on either. This uncompromising partisanship by radicals on both sides hurts the majority of people who don't let politics take over their lives. I am now censored here as I was on reddit. So I just stop participating.
So purge doubters and moderates and then wonder why so many allies desert you. I cannot villainize all those who disagree with me. Now I am left with disgust at both sides.
Signal and Noise. Propaganda and Discussion. Purges and Disillusionment.
I hate that we've been forced into an echo chamber, but I don't see any way around it. If we don't maintain echo-chamberness paid and unpaid shills will flood TD and turn it into yet another leftist echo chamber. I feel like they are trying to polarize everyone to the two extremes. Social media was a mistake.
Your reply eases my heart a lot, just by receiving it. I commented in a separate post where I argued against the universal sentiment in the comments supporting a military coup and armed insurrection. That comment appears in my history, but not in the comment threads of the actual post. Maybe it is just a system glitch. Heh.
I don't want to abandon this site, because it has great information, like this post:
I read the whole affidavit. It is a smoking gun. It is a potential game changer.
I think we might have legitimately lost this election because we got less actual votes by actual people in the separate states in question. That Big Media and Big Tech brainwashed these people is not cause to override the current results of the election.
I think we might have had this election stolen through ballot stuffing with mail-in ballots and manipulation of electronic tabulation. We are proceeding with remedy through the courts of law. Sadly, the law is an ass.
In the back of mind I also know that this is still a deeply divided country where plenty of good and decent people support Biden and dislike Trump. I have been to one of the BLM occupations. It was not constituted with these good and decent people.
Online isn't real. Sadly, every time I hear about an event near me from our side that I would want to attend, it is in news reports after the fact.
Anytime. Feel free to DM if you ever need to get something off your chest too.
I'm of the same mind. There's a lot of news and analysis that is only reported here, which makes this site a valuable, almost essential resource. But we also lose the viewpoint of the average american. Personally, I'm not opposed to Trump dumping real evidence and calling a militia to DC - but I recognize how extreme and unlikely that is. We constantly risk getting caught up in our own fantasies and confirmation biases on this site.
I believe the election was stolen, but I also believe it may be impossible to find proof, or that the courts may not want to hear it. The courts definitely don't want to make waves and overturn results at this point, so they will require excessive amounts of evidence. All told, there's a decent chance Biden (and then Harris) will be president.
Most my friends and half my family are low-information Biden voters. I even have a friend in the BLM movement, who protests police brutality with their church. Great guy with respectable goals and ideals, despite the overall movement. Trying to remain independent and cross the aisle feels like being the child in a divorce. Even if I want to go live with Trump, that doesn't mean I believe the other side of my family is actively evil (excluding the politicians) or want to cut them out of my life.
And I know part of that is the media trying every day to manufacture consensus and offer the poppy fields of believing their lies where people live in comparative peace.
The pandemic is making it all so much worse. I don't know if that's intentional, or if media/politicians just saw the opportunity and took it.
Don't let the general immaturity and borderline fanaticism by some of those here in T_D get you down... there are plenty of good people here too. Maybe even a majority. It's just that - as usual - the loudest voices are the most radical.
The OP is a prime example of everything wrong with T_D. Mindless cheerleading, purity tests and gatekeeping have no place in rational discussion.
Cheerleading has its place. Polemic has real value. If that's all we have, though, it is crap.
I just got off the phone with my father-in-law from Ohio, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Joe Biden, even down to the crankiness of declining mental acuity. He can't stand Donald Trump on a visceral level. He can barely stand me, but I am family and his daughter loves me and our kids (his grandkids) are fruit that prove the adequacy of me as an obnoxious New York tree.
America has been creeping towards socialism since the Great Depression. My daughter and her friends love the Soviet National Anthem. When I try to be hip and joke about it, she gives me a dirty look and explains to me that actual communism killed millions of people.
The frantic cries that this election is liberty's last stand are spoken by those ignorant of history.
<Deep Breath>
But T_D has also been a real solace and education and forum for me. Something stinks in the handling of mail-in ballots and voter registration in big cities. The electronic vote tabulating process, especially in this election, is unconscionably flawed.
I have no problem with cheerleading, just not of the mindless variety. I can only take so many posts claiming, “it’s over”, “Trump has this in the bag” and “it’s all part of the plan”, which do nothing but spread lies and misinformation and are at best counter-productive.
