Nice try. But in all seriousness, I'm probably avoiding all of Central and South America big time. Japan sounds like a really good option, especially if they have a place on the countryside with decent internet. My only concern is how difficult assimilating into Japanese culture could be.
South Korea seems okay, but their government sketches me out. Eastern European countries are fine now, but they're prone to getting taken over in big wars. The Philippines has a low cost of living, but idk how dangerous it is there.
Yeah, that's the concern. I do cyber security, so maybe I have a shot there? Either way, Asian countries have a totally incongruent culture to what I'm used to. I like Poland, but they run the risk of not being very powerful and the whole language issue. It's definitely up on my list though, along with other similar countries.
I'd also considered fading into somewhere rural, but I do need decent internet for what I do. The U.S. is too big to easily enforce tyranny against every little townstead in middle-of-nowhere America, so that's an option. I'm not really keen on living in hiding though.
Maybe the best odds would be to get somewhere really rural and out of the way with the ability to self-sustain and then to have the ability to charter a plane and escape in the worst case?
In Japan, you'd have a hard time getting a job or living a normal life. Move anywhere that isn't a nation. Only the US, UK, Australia, and a few others have the cultural equality that we so treasure.
Theoretically, I could keep U.S. citizenship and work remotely abroad. But I agree, Japan (understandably) can be hostile to outsiders. I don't blame them a bit for that, but it stinks for any of us. When you say places that aren't nations, what do you have in mind?
Avoid nation-states. Any county that has a majority of its population one nationality. They will have high cultural nationalism levels, since everyone's the same ethnicity.
Suggested nations? As someone who would be willing to learn a new language, any Spanish speaking nation would be good for me (Mexico for me), Brazil (if you're rich), and other similar nations in the western hemisphere. Avoid South Africa, or any African nation for that matter. Obviously very unstable and you'll be under Chinese rule at this point.
Eastern Europe could be good, but like you said, if a large war breaks out, you're in trouble. Australia and NZ aren't good options with their cozying up to China. Russia would likely be an option, but adjusting to their ruling system would be difficult. Philippines seems good, but I have no idea how safe or unsafe it is.
Honestly I would stay in the western hemisphere, personally Mexico. large population, catholic (no super different religion with different laws), spanish is easy to learn, and depending on where you live it can be quite safe.
>Go to Brazil

You're right. It helps that I'm really not a social person and can get by alone pretty much anywhere.
