The time has come at work.

We've kept the doors closed to the public since March. We meet people outside, have them call and leave their products off for service, etc. Turns out the wives of two employees MAY HAVE been infected from an outbreak at their office. We don't know for sure yet and my boss has sent those two employees packing for the time being.

We're a pretty right leaning business up in Mass. Common sense is pretty much the rule here and we're all pretty much Pro-Trump. But, because of the scare, the Boss is now mandating everyone wear a mask inside the store.

Currently - I am not. Haven't been asked directly yet either. But I am not. And I don't think I will. I'm not sure if it'll come down to being directly threatened with continued employment or not. Even then, I don't think I will.

Thoughts?

We need ways to not give an inch and still earn a living and still be able to send our kids to school. I completely agree with you, but I need concrete ways to not be forced into wearing a mask and still be employed and still have my child be educated. I mentioned I am realizing I will probably need a lawyer or a doctors note or something. If you know of any legal resources, please share.

It's a private employer, so why are they being forced to do something by the government though? Can't they have employees sign waivers for mask related health issues? Shouldn't a private company be able to say "no" to the government?

I appreciate your ideas, but they do scare me. I wonder, is there a difference between the government making me do something and the government forbidding me from doing something?

I understand the government can forbid behaviors but isn't it unconstitutional for the government or public opinion to make me do something. shouldn't there be protection for me from the mob or public opinion?

Are you saying that we are ruled by public opinion?

It's kind of weird, you said not to give and inch, but it seems like you only have ways to give in, do you have any ways to not give an inch?

It's tough... I work in an office area separated by our warehouse, and I have to throw up my mask anytime I see someone come in...

If you're in a position where you can be out of work, then I stand by & admire your dedication to this mask bullshit. If you can't afford to be out of work for a long duration of time, I would recommend just sucking it up when needed... you won't prevail with unemployment if your ex-employer tells them that you refused to follow state/local mask mandates.

Again, I admire the dedication and eagerness to stand by your values... hope it works out!

I’d turn it into a work comp claim if he made me wear one. Masks fog up my glasses, I’d probably fal and hurt my back.

Can they make you wear contacts? I am in the same boat, I have contacts, part of why I hate masks too, I have to put on contacts to go into public.

Comp claimed would be dismissed immediately here in Mass. It's crazy town here in the court system in Mass.

Plus, I don't have any physical disabilities that I can claim.

I don't even know where to begin..... I work in the largest Medical/University Facilty in South Carolina. I love what I do... shit, I moved across the country for this job last October. They didn't start making us wear masks until mid June. JUNE! The email that was sent out even stated that it was to make the public 'Feel' safe. We're forced to wear masks. But visitors are only required to wear one when entering the hospital, but not in patient rooms!?!? There are a 100 different directions I could go in, and give a 100 different examples of the shear absurdity of mask wearing. The top brass of this organization is super left leaning, and I often interact with them, well I asked one of the CEO's the other day, "What kind of impact do you think masks are having on the environment?" .... Fucking Crickets!! He couldn't even compute! I see all these masks in our bushes, our trees, the sidewalks, the gutters, and the streets! They make their way into our already delicate sewer system, our storm drains, into our waterways, the beaches and the ocean. What about the ban on single use plastic products, Charleston? What about the FUCKING TURTLES!?!?!? These people are worse than Locusts! They consume, and then move on. I told myself I would give it till October 2022. If we're still wearing masks by then, I'm going back to testing concrete and asphalt. But I'm not leaving South Carolina. It's home.

2022? You have FAR more patience than me, sir. Far more.

Lol! Even I'm surprised with my patience. But That's how much I love my job and what I do. I have such a bright and successful future with this organization, I just need to be patient.... for now. But I always have my knowledge in the construction industry to fall back on.

thank you so much for sharing your experience, it is helpful to read other's strategies in talking about the issue, especially with employers.

I admire you and am with you. I am currently trying hard not to panic about mask mandates. It is scary and concerning to me because I can't even talk with my family about it, they simply do it, but I have not seen anything that supports cloth masks even work. This is what scares me. I am also afraid they may make things worse in terms of breathing through a hot, moist organic, material all day. my niece who is 7 is required to wear one to school. I am lucky my son is 2 and not required to wear one, but I am very worried that the day will come and I will not put one on him. I am trying very hard to reach out to anyone in my area that is protesting to try to get strength in numbers and also trying to save for a lawyer if possible.

I don't know what to tell you, I am so lucky I work at home and my son is young, but I am very concerned, I thought we were done with this stuff. The best thing I can do is to reach out to others in my area and like yourself. We have to stay together otherwise we ARE f*cked.

Same issue at my job. Wear my mask below my nose when alone or not at all but put it on when someone walks in. I work with a bunch of Karen’s who brag about mask shaming people in stores, and one even called the police on a neighbor’s kid’s birthday party. The problem is, I am not risking my job since I have family to support. But I intend to leave NY soon.

oh geez, that calling the cops on neighbors thing, is so intense. I am a Karen, I come from the demo, maybe that is why I am so hyper self-aware, I know the damage my demo's irrationality, virtue signaling, and narcism can cause
