That passage is to teach us to offer people second chances. It doesn’t mean you’re supposed to act submissively and forgive someone that continually offends against you. You’re only supposed to forgive them after they’ve changed their negative ways.

The option for forgiveness is one that we are taught to offer, but the one who needs forgiveness ultimately has the responsibility to change their ways and seek forgiveness. If they don’t, they are effectively consenting to being dealt with prejudicially. This is all clearly stated multiple times in the NT.
Our ability to offer forgiveness is never to be used to allow ourselves to be taken advantage of. They’ve gotta change, or they’ve gotta go. (To prison, of course!)
