I'm in a BIG mask wearing area, and I stopped wearing one after the election.
NO ONE has bothered me. NO ONE!
I talk to cashiers, security at the front door, fellow customers, everything.
Zero Challenges. No one has said a peep.
If you are wearing one to avoid confrontation, I wouldn't worry about it. Smile, be kind, and if anyone says something, just say no thank you, or ignore them. Be polite, but firm.
Involuntary mask wearing is a violation of our civil rights, the 4th amendment in particular. "The rights of the people to be secure in their persons,...shall not be violated." Or, if you like, it is a 1st amendment violation, as it LITERALLY is inhibiting your freedom to speak.
Alternative idea is to carry a cup with a lid, and pretend you are drinking.
In a Costco in northern VA I got told twice to put my mask up over my nose. I told them I have a harder time breathing that way since I got Covid back in August. They scowled at me anyway and told me to pull it up. I won’t be going back there.
