First timer with a turkey here.. but 2020 has given me a lot of time to cook. Brining has completely changed my world. All chicken and pork I cook goes through a brine now... no exceptions!
That is rad, dude! Mainz is running a company with some dudes doing future fighter stuff. Herron and I work for Schmitt training Marines and I experimenting with new technologies. We train Marines still and it is fulfilling. Good times!
Muntz and I were in the hospital together and spent some time in Germany before coming back CONUS.
It really is a small world. Someome posted a picture of a "bad ass Marine on here several months ago, and it was my old platoon commander.
You don't think about someone for almost 2 decades and someone mentions the name and it all comes flooding back.
If I remember right, Herron drove a convertable that......didnt convert, so the top was open full time. He drilled drain holes in the floor to let the water out when it would rain twice a year. I may have my Lts mixed up, as Herron wasn't my platoon commander, but I'm pretty sure that was him.
My turkey is sitting at 159 on the smoker. Brined, injected, and smoking for about 5 hours at 250ish. Loved it this way last year. Laid it on a bed of turkey necks that make great snacks :)
Sounds like you're trying to have a few too many people over today sir. I did you a favor and reported you to the authorities for your very own safety.

Now what's this I hear of you yanks putting turkey in brine? please explain to a limey.
I make a very simple brine out of salt and brown sugar.
It makes a YUGE difference in the final product.
OK, I am going to have to duckduck this!

Haha I know! I'll be pulling mine out soon, gunna be hard to not touch it while it rests. (Which is also super important)
Hot take: add lemons to your brine. Kicks it up a notch!
That feeds more than 10, watch out for the helicopters circling! Fauci will be knocking on your door soon.

Capt (at the time) Schmitt was my company commander.
Lt Herron was a platoon commander in the company.....its been forever ago, but I think it was Javs.
Mainz doesn't ring a bell.
I can't really remember any of STA platoon, except Hanson, who moved over from my platoon.

Is that a Smokey mountain with a hinge?
You are correct.
I have the hams and beans on one, and a turkey breast on my smaller smokey mountain.
Very nice. I have a Turkey on the 26” kettle today.
This guy smokes.
Slap that ham for me. Lol. Happy Thanksgiving!
That’s a lot of food for under six people bud.
On my way! :)
