The "melting pot" is the opposite of "diversity is our strength." The melting pot is about building a culture of shared values with the same history.

Exactly, when you pour 100 gallons of freezing water into a melting pot, it cools the whole thing down and is no longer a melting pot. That is why immigration, until recently, has been historically limited, to insure that the "melting pot" would continue to function

Well the second part of your statement I completely agree with. I'm for legal immigration with a solid expectation, not a "pathway," to integration.

I want to point out that the melting part of the phrase melting pot isn't about melting ice. It's more like melting different metals into a new metal. To me that specifically means a culture based on the best of Western values first and foremost, and the best of other cultures get to come along for the blend. The thing is, the "best of other cultures" from my point of view tend to already be shared values anyway. Hard work ethic, willingness to achieve, desire to help others one-on-one instead of desire to prop up a socialist mentality.

I think we're basically in agreement.

“Melting pot“ allows for individuality and a shared sense of national identity Multiculturalism strips individuality and forces everyone to conform to preconceived racial stereotypes (racism) all while flipping the bird to a shared national identity or pride.
