“Good, that simplifies the problem” Lt. Gen. Motherfucking Chesty Burwell Puller.
Total badass, got canned for constantly calling out, who he would call, “those fat assed generals”. Eisenhower would call them the military industrial complex.
My old greek boss was one of those guys, strafed with a machine gun, shot five times, pretended to be dead in a ditch, then literally crawled miles back to his guys. Thats how he lost most of his toes to frostbite. Those were real men. Hard to imagine the horror and pain he endured.
I would have followed that man into battle, great respect...If you like the history, look up the photos of the fields of dead guys , stacked 3 deep in front of our machine guns... Our guys rifles froze up and wouldn't work, and they actually pee'd in them to thaw them out.
A true frozen hell, many years back, I worked with a Marine who was there, and left one of his lungs in the snows of Korea-- we{veterans both]talked often at lunch.
What’s even more impressive is that the Marine Officers ignored orders from their army superiors by leaving supply caches along the route because they saw it coming.
The high command was single minded about getting to the north end of the country on the Chinese border. OP Smith saw the ambush coming and prepared as best he could.
My grandpa was supposed to go to Korea when he was in the Marines, and he suddenly got orders elsewhere in the US. His whole platoon got wasted. I get all existential thinking about that sometimes. Good man, just spent thanksgiving with him.
The Frozen Chosin. God bless those brave marines.
Happy Thanksgiving Chesty!
“Retreat? Hell! We just got here!”
My grandfather died there. We never got his remains back. All our POW/MIA, you are not forgotten! Thank you all for your service.
God bless your grandfather and your family.
“Sir, we’re surrounded!”

Great read. American Patriots fighting against all arms. Brothers in arms.
The guy who just snuck on a train to kill commies is a certified badass for all time.

The Korean War is far too overlooked in American classrooms. I recommend a book called The Coldest Winter if you want to learn more.
Thank you very much for sharing this. We honor their sacrifice by finishing this current fight.
and doomers are crying over tweets and news.
