I am absolutely amazing by the level of censorship that is happening right now, and understand your sentiment. However, this take is not historically inaccurate.

In our founding fathers day they believed in two things that allowed far more lies in their news that we are accustomed to, those being freedom of speech and property rights. They didn't even have libel laws that curbed freedom of speech. In addition , the newspaper was private property so they could basically print anything they wanted.

This was not necessarily a bad thing though because no one accepted what was printed because of some false belief in non partison, libel laws, etc from protecting them. The internet is bringing us closer to this historical reality and the liberals hate that, and this is why they created the "fact checking" services. There grasp on the narrative is falling away at unprecedented speed.
