I think if you look at both Parties, you might find a lot of people who pulled strings to get deferments for their kids. My dad was a recruiter at the time, and he heard all about it.

When we got the all-volunteer forces, there was a debate about reinstating the draft. He decided to do everything he could to require that, if the draft were reinstated, Senator's sons would have to be included on the same basis as everybody else.

My dad was and is a diehard Democrat.

All that said, the current Democrat Party has embraced some unworkable and terribly corrupt policies.
