Internet down, electricity out, suburbia, roving bands of antifa or other criminals.. their strength is in numbers and they can easily single out individuals or couples, no bunker or rural property to retreat to.. what's the plan exactly? I'm surrounded by liberals for the most part and generally would not know how to find trustworthy people in this area.
Is the smart play to just drive to the country and hope for the best? Hunker down quietly and hope no one notices? pretend to be a democrat? Buy a few acres of land somewhere and retreat there?
I'm not looking for a detailed plan, more of a generalized "how do you find other good people if SHTF" type advice.
Talk to your neighbors NOW. Consider church groups, lions clubs, gun ranges, etc. Local neighborhood watch?
Historically, this would have been a great option. In times past, it was the preacher who ran the local militia. It was the preacher who led men against the British Regulars. It was the preachers that preached sermon after sermon after sermon against the British, against slavery, etc in the lead up to the revolution.
Modern preachers just don't have the same piss and vinegar since LBJ neutered them in '62.
What happened in 62?
LBJ didn't like that Churches opposed his Congressional election campaign. After he won that election, he inserted a rider into legislation that added Churches to the 501c3 tax exemption list, stripping them of their Free Speech rights.
The rider read "stating entities that are exempt from federal income tax cannot "Participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of – or in opposition to – any candidate for public office.""
Prior to that, Churches routinely spoke on political matters, which candidates to support, who to oppose, etc. Since then, they can't or they lose their tax exemption status.

You ought to do it before shtf. The how part is that you have to start talking to people. People at the local grocery, hardware store, gun shops, ranges. There are facebook groups, craigslist groups, church groups. You have to just wade into the quagmire of your local humanity and start peopling.

I do not like people. I feel stabby when there are more than 4 around. I feel you, I really do. Another way is to master 2 or 3 highly prized non pew pew skills, that will get you priority in most groups. I chose botany/medicine making, food preservation, and veterinary medicine. In addition to several other things I can do so/so but haven't mastered. Skills you can actually do will always be highly valuable.
You know why the Feds had such difficulty infiltrating various eco-terrorist groups? Because they were organized into small cells of people who'd known each other for decades. An outsider, any outsider, wasn't allowed in.

Do you have a degree in botany? Or are you referring to self-taught survival botany?
I apprenticed under a naturopath in the 90s. I took botany and chemistry at community college. I possessed the requirements at that time to be certified but did not want to do that. I hold no degrees as I only took the classes I needed to get where I wanted to be. So I'm not really sure what to call that.
I think there as some apps that let you see and converse with others in your area concerning local affairs. Maybe try and drop some redpilled hint and wait to see who bites? Go to the gun range, meet people there. Go to church would be a good bet as well.

. . . I would say a HAM license would be one of the most desired communication tools in the event of a shtf scenario. It can't simply be switched off. It can't easily be blocked without impeding one's own communication efforts. It can reach very, very long distances.
Edit - Downside, is that its a very insular community that doesn't really like outsiders. You want in, you play entirely by ARRL's rules. You buy their study materials, you take the test under their auspices, at their facilities. You won't find quality Udemy courses or study materials on book shelves, like you will with hundreds of other certifications.

Get a ham radio, learn it and program SHTF channels on it. I for one got to test this about 7 months ago, a truck left the road 2 miles out of my town in MN, crashed into a power pole and put my town into darkness, at about 10:30pm. Cell phones and 911 were down for about 2 hours. My town was pitch black, no moon, just sounds of ppl and cars. I grabbed my sidearm and ham radio and stood guard outside my house knowing I couldn't even call 911 if something happened. Ironically, others had the same plan, i was in contact with 4 different groups of ppl all trying to figure out what happened, but the conclusion is - get secondary communication devices ASAP.

I would start with building a kit in a backpack that you could use if your car broke down. Basics to establish shelter, triaging medical issues, fire, water purifyingand etc. You can take of that for less than $100 and you will be 100 miles ahead of everyone else. You can also get 1 month of food of non perishable food. I would also recommend getting your hands on a firearm
