I worked on Alcatraz for 10 years. Alcatraz Island (now a national park) is ground zero for "Unthanksgiving" the biggest event of the year for Native American activists. A sunrise ceremony takes place every Thanksgiving at dawn. Hundreds of Indians come and set up a teepee and do dances and speeches. It memorializes the Indian occupation of Alcatraz 1969-1971.
