Totalitarian systems attract corruption and mediocrity. Hayek warned us of this. It's not just that power corrupts. Corrupt forms of power attract the corrupt. As Hayek put it, people with moral principles have no wish to be slave-drivers.
Socialism is inherently corrupt. It is top-down authoritarian and yet at the top are mediocre people of low character dictating to the masses. Look at the succession of leaders in the Soviet Union: either thugs or brigands like Stalin or stiff nonentities like Brezhnev. There's a reason why we produced a Washington and a Lincoln, and the Soviet system produced nothing but these third-raters.
The model for totalitarian states in modern times is the French Revolutionary Terror. The Revolutionary Tribunal was an instrument of judicial murder with a grotesquely high conviction rate, and "defendants" were often victims of neighbors acting as informants not out of ideology or morality but out of greed or spite: the chance to take over their victims' property or simply for personal revenge. Robespierre was a mediocrity who didn't even start the Terror. Like Biden he simply got out in front of it when he saw which way things were headed. You could call him the first really powerful party hack in modern times. (As in "the People's Party.")
Twentieth-century versions of the Jacobin regime follow the same pattern of recruiting the masses as servants of corrupt power, to the point where (in East Germany, e.g.) family members informed on each other to the State. Their internal polling numbers probably told them Biden was at risk but they didn’t know for sure because there’s preference obfuscation by Trump voters (unknown number of actual supporters before the election). And they pursued a dual strategy that would benefit them either outcome:
(1) if they can pull off the win, they win. If there is enough doubt and their control of all media, including co-opting fox, will allow them to silence opposition, then the majority of the public may accept it. Trump only has like 2 months to reverse public opinion, and if he doesn’t do it by December, he may run out of time then give up once the wheels start getting in motion for Biden to become president.
(2) if they can’t pull off a win, but for a brief period, they take all the left wing people in the country and convince them their man won, then when he doesn’t actually win (2 months after they’ve all emotionally committed to this new reality they’ve been gaslit into) they’ll be jerked around so fucking hard emotionally (massive cognitive dissonance), that it’ll activate them to riot like never before. Cognitive dissonance can push people into extremely entrenched positions. These people running this scam are the ones that promote colour revolutions, the Arab spring, and were dumping free weapons straight into Al Qaeda’s hands in the Middle East. Things like the BLM riots in the USA were a walk in the park. They’re experts at chaos manipulation. Furthermore, this will make Trump’s opposition in the second term even more aggressive than they were in the first. Democrats may perceive republicans as having taken the gloves off first (even if not true) and be willing to do a lot more shady tactics in the future. Things like stacking courts, etc. And he may come to a point after he wins where there are two completely different narratives going on, and people are going nuts in the streets. If an actual million maga March doesn’t form to counter the press narrative, people may never wake up. And if it gets too violent, he may need to actually use the military to control things. Which is exactly what the left wants, so that their attacks can stick. It’ll be a sort of check mate to turn him into what they propagandize him as to the populace.
Thank you for this extremely well-thought-out post. It really is horrifying what Marxism has achieved, and how much they currently control the narrative and therefore minds and souls. This is why we can't get complacent, and why the real doomers need to stop being killjoys about people getting out and being loud and hopeful and excited to be a part of everything.... Because we HAVE to get out there. We have to talk to friends to boost their morale, we have to confront those suffering from the cognitive dissonance with as much kindness as manageable, to help them hear the truth, and we have to be visible in the streets, peacefully for as long as we can remain that way.

Came here to say exactly this. A (purposely) contested election is one of the pillars of a color revolution. We’ve basically hit all the pillars outlined by McFaul. Except that Trump is not an unpopular incumbent. Which is one of the many reasons why this color revolution will fail.

If the left let Trump win cleanly in the eyes of the nation, it would have utterly destroyed the Democrat party. This was their only option. I truly believe getting Biden in there was never the main goal. Party survival is the goal.

Average Joe's with math degrees were tearing the data apart with ease within the first week post election.
