I mean, it's a shame that the Spaniards destroyed so many cultural artifacts from the civilisations they conquered, but I'd be lying if I said that the world is worse off for no longer having the fucking AZTECS.

Exactly, the british empire had a way better foreign policy. Keep the artifacts, replace the natives, and conquer land. Up until they started fucking with their colonies they were pretty based.

Their mistake was exploiting their colonies to pay for global warfare dictated by a central hegemony.

They should have devolved governance of the colonies into a crowned republic of individual imperial states that contributed a voluntary militia to foreign war efforts in exchange for support through a unilateral infrastructure. Kind of like the USA is now, except controlling more of the Earth and having a single expansionist leader at the head rather than a two-party system that perpetuates political inertia.
