He is a lawyer, and super leftist. I could tell in his demeanor he was angry with me. We were taking about the damn paint on the walls. Paint color turned to "if I ever hear someone say Fag, I'll kill them." My nephew is gay. He is 23 years old and has never driven a car. That is unbelievable to me. Nephew stayed in his room the entire time I was there. He was so afraid of my presence he stayed in his room. I'm family!! My niece was shaking with fear and anger when she spoke to me. I asked her with true concern, "what is wrong, why are you angry?" She said she can't stand hateful people. I've done nothing to these people. I said I'm a christian, I love everyone. I might not agree with your world view, but i love you. Im a 22 year and 3 deployment army vet. But yet they see me, a fellow American, as the enemy. They mirror the dog. Irrational fear and anger. My presence alone made these people afraid. What has happened to this country? I felt more hated in my own family"s house then I ever did in Iraq.

What will the guy do? (v9-12) His "...coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved."
What happens to those who did not receive the truth so they could be saved? "And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." They will be damned.
What happens to the antichrist? (v8)"...te Lord shall consume [him] with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy [him] with the brightness of his coming."
Paul identifies these things must happen before the resurrection, to reassure believers the resurrection has not passed.
When is the resurrection then? Paul describes the first resurrection (those who died with faith in Christ + those of the OT who had faith in the coming Messiah, promised to Adam & Eve when God punished them at the Garden of Eden) as something that happens just prior to, but almost simultaneous with the rapture of the church: (1Thes 4:16-17) "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

I try to be patient with them, because the brainwashing they have been subjected to, is all pervasive - TV, movies, print media, education - and they have been immersed in it for years, decades in some cases. For example I've had a whole bunch of conversations with my dad about certain things that come up in the news, and I'll explain why it's fake news, and usually in the end he'll agree. But then literally the same day he'll be watch the same fake news TV show.
How can someone who just agreed that the news is so full of lies just continue to watch it? Like it doesn't cross their mind, "Why is the media lying to me?" Or, "Maybe I should look somewhere else for the truth." Surely people watch the news to find out what's going on in the world, but when they know it's fake and continue to watch it, then what are they even doing? I really can't get my head around it.

I used to teach and actually used The Wave once for my class. I think you misunderstood the messages of the book because it is anti-fascist (actually against fascism, not like the left's make-believe version of "anti-fascism") and anit-group think. The teacher in the book who creates this experiment does so because he feels his students do not know how to think for critically think for themselves. Through silly, vague slogans and symbols (such as the wave hand motion he teaches them), students begin joining the group. Over time, the group's actions escalate from just excluding others to policing others to finally punishing those who will not submit to their group ideology (sound familiar?).
I know you mentioned "solving problems," but I don't believe the group actually is focused on solving or improving anything. That's an important point... that the students are attracted to the vague ideology because it SOUNDS nice, but there is nothing of actual substance within it other than to do the bidding of the ideology and expand it at the expense of those who disagree or refuse to join.
Just an aside, I remember one day chilling in the teacher's lounge trying to get some work done, and this ultra-lib teacher was discussing the author of The Wave with another teacher. Most of my family and my wife's family are up in Chicago. Thankfully, we moved around the country a bit, and were able to make our own choices and decisions without any influence from anyone else. My kids are based, and my wife and I have been helping mentor, coach, and navigate then through all the non-stop nonsense thrown at their way.
