Looking into making a Concept Rifle and was thinking about what the top 10-20 Rifle rounds everybody considered to be the best for either Self Defense or Hunting.
The hunting bit calls into question a lot of things. Such as geographical location. e.g. 5.56 isn't legal for deer in a lot places. Some places also require straight walled cartridges. 5.56 is a great round for defense. Not a great round for larger game.
For defense you'll probably want something semi-auto, and I'm going to assume you need at least .24 caliber or larger for large game, and I'm going to also guess you don't need straight-walled cartridges where you are. For these reasons I'm going to suggest you take a look at .300 blackout as a decent middle ground.
.300 win mag
.30-06 Springfield
.338 Lapua (the strongest rifle round out there, but expensive)
.300 RUM (between .300 win mag and .338 Lapua)
.308
5.56mm
6.5 Creedmoor
Those are just my opinion based on reasons that may be different than others.
.22 for fun and plinkin', .243 for small deer and varmint, .270 .308 for distance and accuracy, 45-70 for blowing away anything that walks. 5 should do, but the .223 can get it all done.
For what purpose?

5.56.
Hands down due to the availability of ammo. Shoots .223 and 5.56.
Everyone and their grandma has boatloads of this ammo stashed somewhere.
The 10\22 can fire pretty much every round for the platform.
Top ten in what aspect?

Kind of a vague question. There are different purposes for different types of rounds whether it be for self defense or hunting/plinking.

I’ve been eyeing a brass lever in 45-70. I hear your balls drop even lower once you own one
It's the Henry isn't it?
.308 and 5.56 will do almost everything for you.
