As just proper movies, though, I'd rate it 1, 3, 2, then 4. There is no 5. I swear, 2 used to be my fave but then I realized how much I disliked snow. Like with many things, it always looks so great if you've not had to experience it first hand.
Jk. Enjoyed 4 quite a lot, too. But three imo is fucking great. While it wasn't a proper sequel and had barely any ties to the first two that properly come to mind, save McClane and Gruber's br other, it was fucking great.
Come to think of it, the whole scene where John was forced to wear the racist sign to save everybody's lives kinda speaks to today..... Cops being called every name in the book only all because they shoulder the burden of the policies forced upon them by the powersatbe and all.
Another thing I like about the franchise is how they portray power structures as incrementally more and more bureaucratic as you climb the hierarchy. Meanwhile, the real people, the beatcops who go day to day out on the streets..... They're the ones with the sense no amount of training could prepare the ones in charge. Everybody else is bythebooks and unwilling to compromise with genuine common sense.
What made mclane a good cop is he willing to go further for something right not just sit back because that's gonna threaten his paycheck or order from higher up. And in 3 i like how he retorting the claim of racist by pointing the obvious

1,3,4 is the good one. 2 not good enough for me. 3 had really good argument on racism though
I see your argument, but 2 had snow.
