I don't think that Hunter himself was molested - I think that he WITNESSED it from a young age happening to his female family members. Joe targets little girls. He targeted his own daughter.

The effects would still be similar for Hunter to have witnessed it happening. He would also view it psychologically as the way he should treat girls once he became an adult.
