Most states have food taxes too. Taxes are how we pay for our rights to be protected, and services to be provided. Another example is fuel taxes.

Should we accept all taxes? No, not automatically, but we should look at how that tax money is spent on a case-by-case basis before deciding if it is acceptable.

PA charges 6% for prepared food, and 0% for stuff that you have to cook yourself. Our food taxes are fair, as prepared food could be considered a luxury.

As far as I know, in states that have a sales tax on food, it is the same sales tax rate used for general merchandise. There may be exceptions.
