His wife started complaining about burning when he came in her. He brought it up with his crewmates and they were all like yeah our wives have the same problem. That said, I have seen what a DU round out of an A-10 can do to the wrecked hull of a liberty ship beached in the bay. Maybe it's worth the risk but i dunno. I like my nuts to not be glowy....
Depleted Uranium in theory wouldn't be massively dangerous - it's less radioactive than typical uranium ores that can be found in abundance in many places. We eat radioactive foods like Bananas and Brazil nuts. The main emission of depleted uranium is alpha particles which can be stopped by your skin - one issue in the Gulf was probably men breathing in the dust or it getting in their drinking water. It poses more of a risk internally than externally. Also that depleted uranium is a heavy metal - many of those suffering ill effects from exposure to depleted uranium probably got heavy metal poisoning as a result - if that material is persistent in the body it probably didn't do them any good.
