I can tell some funny stories about the obamacare website. I know quite a few people that worked on it. There’s a reason it was a disaster.

Edit: Ok, seems I got a little interest so I’ll spill a bit.

It cost billions! And didn’t work.

There’s a few reasons for that.

A shitload of software developers (almost all I would bet) on this project were brand new - they were new graduates, but the companies they were working for made a bunch of fake resumes, and just chucked as many people at it as they could. They were billed at senior developer rates or higher - the prime contracting company took most of the fee and the government just kept throwing money at it.

Here’s a funny one - one of the guys I know did nothing but change the CSS colors. Billed out at probably 150 bucks an hour, for months, to just change a color. Work that could be done in seconds. Now, multiply that a few hundred times and you start to see how big of a racket this was.

So not only was this wasteful and fraudulently billed, but the company that was taking the money wasn’t even American. They had some American subcontractors, but the fact is the majority of the money spent on the project was just shuttled out of the country to foreign business owners.

Looking back on it and knowing what I know now, it was probably some sort of kickback scheme.
