pretty sure HW was president during RR. Not that it matters, Bushs and Clintons are all cut from the same cloth.

I’ve thought about this photo for years. How is the photographer farther inside the room than the agent. The photo was taken inside a house but there isn’t any signs that a flash was used. Was it professionally lit? Was it staged? It looks like a training exercise with a photog tagging along.

I think it was taken by his family members.

Edit: I just looked it up and it was taken by an AP photographer/journalist who was “accidentally” let in with the agents...

It was 100% amnesty propaganda. Just like that dead future-rapist that washed up on the shores of Europe.

Of course flash was used. The wall is bright white, the inside of the cabinet is lit, and you can see the glint on the agent's helmet as well as on the MP5 and the faces. Moreover, look at the shadow the door frame is casting. As the flash light is fixed on top of the camera, the shadow is visible from an angle below.

If I'm not getting it, please correct me.

I see the shadow. Someone also posted about the family having media in the home. But why would armed agents not clear the room and detain everyone. It just feels like a photo op. Anyway, thanks for the clarifications. Most importantly, this was during the Clinton years.

That's because it is a photo op. The FBI send in a professional photograph.

The people harboring him had the media inside the house. Everyone knew they were going to come in and get him. All the legal boxes were checked off.

Dang I forgot that one. Seemed fishy at the time but I was not paying real attention.

To satisfy the commie overlords

To capture staged photos designed to make every normal American feel antagonistic towards the idea of deporting illegal aliens and foreign nationals who are in the country without permission and are citizens of another country that will not do its duty towards its own citizens.

Invited in by the people living there before the raid happened.

The mom died, Castro wanted the dad to have him back, the mom's expressed wish was that Elián go to relatives in the USA. She wanted him out of Cuba.

7
faintpremonition 7 points ago +7 / -0

And the Clinton administration wanted to make conservatives hate the idea of deportations, so they sent in a photographer along with this totally staged raid to capture pictures of a scared kid.

The question is whether the dad's say is his own or the Cuban gov't. This case was important to the Communist party.

1
Dallasguy 1 point ago +1 / -0

The mom drowned after taking him without his father's knowledge. Father had legal standing. Once the Americans started dragging their feet, Castro knew it was a way to embarrass Americans, his favorite sport.

The dad had no choice and effectively lived in prison. The conditions in Cuba were terrible, but then I have been reading Cuban history and conditions have been terrible most of the time. It just switches from one tyranny to another.

Cubans have actual amnesty claims.

Just being poor isn’t a real claim. Facing persecution in your homeland is.

Of course not, he should have been returned to his father. But the Clinton administration saw a great opportunity to make a media furor and send in a photographer to capture pictures of scary guns and a scared kid to make conservatives feel bad about deporting illegal aliens.

1
Dallasguy 1 point ago +1 / -0

This was a huge black eye to Clinton and his entire justice department. The media, while biased to the left, was not bought and paid for yet. If this had happened under Obama you would never have known it happened.

This picture always drove me crazy... even as a high schooler when this happened.

Zero chance this is not a staged picture.

camera person would have had to beat them into the room to get into position to take the picture... the dad has an expression that only a community theater actor could portray... the ‘soldier’ body position is not one of action but complete stillness.

World is a stage... this shitshow of a picture woke me up to that

I remember that well, absolutely tragic.

Elian Gonzales was legally supposed to go back to Cuba. If you believe in the rule of law then he had to go back, no matter how you feel about it.

Am I the only one that is actually fine with this?? His parents were illegals, he was an illegal, and if they wanted to come here they should have done so properly. It's the same as all the fucking Venezuelans that are trying to come here illegally then piss and moan when we deport them back to their shithole country that is being run by the fucking SOCIALIST THEY VOTED FOR!!

YOU MADE YOUR FUCKING BED, NOW SLEEP IN IT.

She wouldn't have died if she tried to get here the proper way. I don't care if she's fleeing a communist country or not, they came here ILLEGALLY and the proper thing to do is to SEND THEM BACK. If anyone wants to escape oppression, that's fine, but do it LEGALLY.

Okay, so let's just let in all the Cubans, Venezuelans, Chinese, North Koreans, Sudanese, Columbians....do I really have to go on? Are you saying we should just open up our borders to every single person living in a shithole country? Is that REALLY what you're saying?

Still haven't answered my question...do you support just opening our borders up to everyone that wants to come here?
