i don't think it's that simple you don't have an obligation by default to retain evidence against yourself aka do the government's investigatory job for it
18 U.S. Code Section 1519 covers "Destruction, alteration, or falsification of records in federal investigations and bankruptcy." I'm not sure if this applies to federal civil lawsuits or to state civil lawsuits. Generally, you are NOT supposed to alter or destroy evidence after a lawsuit has been served on you. BTW, I am not a lawyer. Maybe a Georgia lawyer or lawyer with a federal practice could chime in on this.
