I'm going to say one thing quick, what about rural mail carriers that use there own vehicles to deliver mail. I'm sure she's not lying and has a leg to stand on, I'm just curious about the actual law.
Rural mail carriers, contract carriers, even rural postmasters who carried mail to another office when it was misdelivered...we carry mail in privately owned vehicles every single day.
Edit: okay, I realized that all of us who were transporting mail in privately-owned vehicles were authorized to do so by virtue of contract or employment, and this might be the distinguishing factor
I agree that carrying it in uncovered tubs like that is extremely irregular, typically the rural carriers have a van or a pick-up topper to protect the mail from weather and wind. This picture shows an alarming disregard for the mail (which postal carriers - at least in my neck of the woods - take very seriously). I didn't mean to get all confrontational, I'm just having trouble wrapping my head around Sidney making a blanket statement like "it's illegal to carry mail in a privately-owned vehicle". (paraphrased)
yep usually when the the post office needs to hire extra workers for busy times they use their own cars. Last year I had a guy pick them up in his sedan multiple times. Seemed sketchy but they were always delivered
No, but my point was rural carriers can carry mail in privately owned vehicles. So there must be some laws around this.
For what its worth, not many know this, but sending a non-urgent letter via UPS or FedEx is actually a crime. There's a lot of laws governing the mail and the legalized monopoly is just there to keep the USPS afloat.
I'm skeptical and concerned if she is telling people to spread this. This seems fake. If the tubs had lids on them it would seem legit. Those bungee cords aren't going to stop mail from flying out of the tubs. Whoever took this video, I'm assuming a trucker given the height, he should have taken video instead

The transportation of Federal mail in a privately-owned vehicle is against the law. FB and twitter are censoring this photo. Make it go viral
You’d think they would put it in an unsuspecting tinted van. They don’t fucken care. How arrogant are these people to do it in the open (with a Biden bumper sticker).
Whoa. Wait. Postal contractors use their own (privately-owned) vehicles to transport mail every single day. Did Sidney really assert that this is a crime?
Transportation of Federal Mail in a privately-owned vehicle is not against the law. Is there more context to this comment that I'm not seeing?
Edit: all of us who were transporting mail in privately-owned vehicles were authorized to do so by virtue of contract or employment, and this might be the distinguishing factor. I don't know how you discern that this truck is not authorized to carry mail, but carrying it in open tubs like that is highly irregular.
Right. But posting the same parlor post over and over doesn't help clarify the question. It's not against the law to transport federal mail in a privately owned vehicle.
I would tend to TRUST Sidney's Legal opinions. I get your posts about people who do Contract to deliver mail, using their own vehicle. Maybe the gist of it, is regarding if a contractual / legal agreement was entered into. Per the photo, does not look like a normal carrier
I am willing to trust Sidney, that there is more to it. Maybe YOUR mail person has an legal contract to deliver your mail. And, this truck does not? Again, I am relying on Sidney's years of Legal experience.
Theres always exceptions to rules and laws and different areas. My rural is normally done with their own cars. But then, my state tossed Trump ballots too, and nothing from the GOP in my state after numerous reports either.
I dont trust the democrat union that delivers my mail, i never trust democrats.
It can be legal to transport US mail in privately owned vehicles.
According to Code of Federal Regulations Title 39 Postal Service Part V. TRANSPORTATION OF MAIL Chapter 50. GENERAL Section 5005. Mail transportation:
(c) The Postal Service, in determining whether to obtain transportation of mail by contract under subsection (a)(3) of this section or by Government motor vehicle, shall use the mode of transportation which best serves the public interest, due consideration being given to the cost of the transportation service under each mode.

Five Star, I was thinking the same thing. There must have been some LEGAL CONTRACTUAL agreement reached, in the Rural situations.

Does that look rural to you?

Probably not considered "federal" mail

Uh... that is simply not true.
Every rural mail carrier carries the mail in his or her OWN car.
So do contract carriers that transport mail in trucks between post offices.
Can confirm. Former postal employee here.

Is this photo real? We, ourselves need to make sure before putting it out there
Pretty sure this was posted here the week before the election and people replied that it was fake.

LARP, you fell for it
What is LARP?
Live Action Role Play, or to put it another way, it's fake news.
The licenses plate would have been the doxing thing yo do.

Is it a bad thing that I misread FB as FBI in her tweets and they still make sense? smh.
