Preach. Am still friends with many such people in my close circle but it’s so hard to respect anything at all they say, regurgitated NYT stories and how we should abolish the electoral college and do UBI cause TRcHnoLogY and Orange man baaad
What's worse is the friends who are just getting indoctrinated. You'll say something like "men make up 90% of the prison population - why aren't we imprisoning more women?" And they will fumble up some vague word salad argument and inject buzzwords like "power" and "privilege." I had a buddy try that with me, and I literally couldn't understand the point he was trying to make, and I'm certain he couldn't either because when I asked him to clarify... crickets. Like... because men have more power they have the privilege to be in jail? Still boggles the mind what he was trying to say.
It's tough. I seem to lose more of those friends to it every year because "You're not wrong, you're just an asshole." You just probe the arguments a little and they crumble, then they get pissed at you because the worldview they sold their soul for is shit.
Once you notice this it becomes virtually impossible to have these “people” as friends.
