I think your self identity comes into play here. Some people base their self identity on how others see them. Likes on facebook/reddit updoots/ etc. The more you see yourself in relation to others, the more you can be swayed by propaganda.
Also, critical thinking skills. Schools no longer teach critical thinking, quite the opposite. a friend is taking a "critical thinking" class in college, and it consists of the prof pushing leftist propaganda and students using "critical thinking skills" to reinforce and confirm that propaganda as "truth".
People with a high level of self awareness that is accurate tend to have a high bullshit meter, and they also tend to not give a shit if their views are inconsistent with groupthink.
But the leftists have been actively brainwashing people for at least 40 years now, so you have 2 generations to look at at least. The initial group of recipients (my generation, the 50's and 60's kids) and their children. I have noticed that those of my generation that didn't get programmed have kids that are conservative, as mine are. Whereas those that fell prey to the whole free love/ antiestablishment bullshit and in some cases hippy bullshit raised their kids differently. Those kids are leftists and Antifa types.
That's just a basic off the cuff opinion on the issue. But there have been numerous studies on this (though finding them can be tough since governments use them for nefarious purposes). These people have been refining their techniques for longer than I have been alive, and I am 55 now.
You're right. I was blessed to be in small town conservative schools that made you question things and do the research. My boys are conservative as well. I teach the grandbabies not to believe what you told without facts. Do your own research. Be able to prove your statements
