Yeah. What he might be up to --- well, let's use a poker analogy. If you're holding a four of a kind you can certainly bet wildly as soon as you get it. But if you do that, the others may fold and you'll get very little with a very strong hand. A better strategy is to slow play. Maybe even check and let others bet into you, where you sheepishly call, encouraging them to bet even more on the Turn and the River. Maybe you check-raise, but if you're sheepish enough, maybe they'll go all-in, thinking they got you on the ropes, not realizing you're about to take their entire stack. Whereas, if you played aggressively early on, you might have won little more than the blinds.
