I have to say, in my life, the one prayer that the Lord has always answered in immediate and overwhelming fashion was to ask the He give me the peace of His Holy Spirit. A supernatural calm. It has gotten me through so much. I will ask He do the same for you now so you may be strong for your wife.
From a women's perspective, I grieved for months heavily and quietly forever. My husband was being too strong for me. I needed to see him grieve with me. That's what helped the most, that I wasn't alone.
